Skiing Tips for Beginners

Skiing Tips for Beginners

When starting out skiing for the first time, it is important for beginners to have the proper clothing, ski gear and training. It doesn’t have to be as hard as obtaining comet discount codes or anything like that. You want to get clothing that will keep you warm and dry as well as allow you to cool down quickly once you get indoors.

Thermal underwear is a good idea and will keep you much warmer than clothing made of standard cotton. You can find a variety of thermal underwear in any outdoor or camping shops. You will also want to invest in a waterproof ski jacket and pants. These will keep the moisture out and keep snow from getting in. You might want to search around for some bargains as these items can get a bit costly.

Accessories are also important when skiing. You want to think about investing in thick socks, gloves and a good pair of goggles. These goggles should be made to protect your eyes from snow glare and they should be UV resistant. You should also apply some sunscreen to protect your skin from sunburn. This may sound odd, but it can happen.

Last, a good pair of ski boots should be considered. You want them to fit snug around your legs and hold them in securely. Before buying these you might want to check out the resort you plan on skiing at to see about their rentals. You can usually rent boots, skis and poles at a fraction of a cost.

Okay, so you now have your clothing and gear, how do you learn to ski? There are many ski schools and private instructors who will give you ski lessons and it is a good idea to invest in this type of training. You can also purchase ski instruction DVD’s and books to get the basics. Bring along a friend and practice what you’ve learned.

No matter how good you are don’t forget ski insurance. People get hurt no matter their level, skiing dangeous sport.

Can’t Cook Won’t Cook

Can’t Cook Won’t Cook

If I could turn back time to twenty years ago, here’s what I’d do. I’d dress up as Father Christmas, tiptoe round to my boyfriend’s childhood home (he would’ve been five years old) and place a gift into his stocking. That gift would be a cooking guide. In the hope that he would take an interest at a young age and grow up to be the best celebrity chef in the world, famous for creating dishes that are incredibly delicious and yet only ten calories per meal. Okay, that’s a bit over-ambitious – I just wish he’d grown up with half an iota of an idea about how to cook.

Now, I’m not saying that I’m good at cooking, in fact I’m pretty crap. I can follow a recipe and get things to taste exactly as they should, but I’m no creative visionary in the kitchen. I absolutely love food, way too much if I’m honest – I think I prefer food to people – and I know exactly what I like and why I like it. But when there’s ‘something missing’ from my Bolognese – I don’t taste it and immediately know – it needs some Worcestershire sauce for sweetness! – in fact I’m usually at a loss and just add a teaspoon of Marmite and half a bottle of red wine because that’s what I imagine Delia would do. The truth is, Delia wouldn’t be in that position in the first place – but I’m not here to discuss my shortcomings, I’m here to discuss my boyfriend’s. He can’t even make toast. He burns it and only butters a 5cm circle in the middle of the slice. It’s unforgiveable and I’m at the end of my tether. Either he learns to cook or he moves out!!
